UNM Lands Dax Hall as Jake Hall’s Status Remains Uncertain

Lobo Nation can clock out of Hall Monitor duty, at least partially. While the wait on Jake Hall continues, the Lobos landed his younger brother, Dax Hall, a playmaking 3-star combo guard who gives UNM a major boost for 2026–27.

The younger Hall brings a different skill-set than Jake. He is not as much of a high volume 3-point shooter as he is playmaker that likes to attack off the dribble and get to the basket. Mike Haupt, father of Lobo guard Luke Haupt and head coach at San Diego’s St. Augustine High School, provided a spot on comparison to the San Diego Union Tribune earlier today.

“Jake is a classic 3-point shooter, a guy who can hurt you from any spot on the floor,” Haupt said. “Dax is a slasher, a guy who can score, but can also create shots for his teammates. He’s more of a point guard.”

While Dax Hall did not score the 3,106 career points that Jake did in high school, he was still an incredible scorer in his own right with ten 30-point games this past year and finished his career with 1,957 points.  Dax impacted the game in different ways with his ability to penetrate and distribute while also making plays on the defensive end of the floor.

“I consider myself a winner,” he told the San Diego Union Tribune in February. “Sure I can score, but I take pride in my passing. I love to set up my teammates. And I’m proud of my defense, too.”

His stat line in high school included six double-doubles in points and rebounds, three double-doubles in points and assists, and two triple doubles. Dax also makes a huge impact on the defensive end of the floor. Four games during his senior season with Santa Fe Christian, he had 8 steals or more and ended the season averaging 3.4 steals per game.

Jake Halls’ Status

While the Dax and Jake posed for a few pictures together with both wearing Lobo uniforms, there is still no confirmation that Jake will be returning to UNM next season.

The reports that Jake is receiving high seven-figure NIL offers are true, and Hall and his representation are reportedly contacting the high-major power 4 schools this week to gauge the offers and Jake’s fit. It was reported that Jake had a Zoom call set up with Kansas on Monday.

The older Hall is under no immediate rush to make a decision, and it is expected that he will feel out all of his options within the next couple weeks before announcing whether he will transfer or return to UNM.

UNM’s roster for 2026-27 now includes 6 players:

  • Sophomore Guard Uriah Tenette, 5-foot-11

  • Freshman Guard Dax Hall, 6-foot-2

  • Sophomore Guard Hudson Mayes, 6-foot-5

  • Senior Forward Chris Howell, 6-foot-6

  • Redshirt Freshman Forward Imran Suljanovic, 6-foot-8

  • Freshman Forward Benjamin Schuch, 6-foot-9

UNM has secured a verbal commitment from Parker High School’s Tavid Johnson. It was rumored that Johnson could reclassify to be a 2026 graduate and join the Lobos this season. The San Diego-Union Tribune reports that Johnson elected to stay in high school and play his senior season, meaning he will join the Lobos in 2027.
